Rising Stars in Population Health Sciences

Returning in Fall 2024

ABOUT

The University of Utah Department of Population Health Sciences hosted a Rising Stars in Population Health Sciences symposium for doctoral students and recent graduates in December 2022. The in-person event in beautiful Salt Lake City  provided an opportunity to share research, network with faculty and peers, and explore postdoctoral fellowship opportunities at the University of Utah. We invited scholars whose interests align with the research of PHS faculty (e.g., cancer epidemiology, heath system research, implementation science, biostatistics, interventions to improve patient outcomes).

2022 Symposium

...fantastic opportunities to engage with faculty while also learning more about the university, city, and surrounding area.

"I was unsure what to expect from this event, but I left feeling blown away by the experience. I found the department and faculty to be incredibly warm and welcoming. The department was extremely generous with their time and went out of their way to help scholars connect with faculty in other departments. The social networking events were fantastic opportunities to engage with faculty while also learning more about the university, city, and surrounding area."

...this is the first program that I have come across that is about postdocs and preparing scholars for the academic world.

"I wish more programs existed. In fact, this is the first program that I have come across that is about postdocs and preparing scholars for the academic world. I will highly recommend it to other scholars especially underrepresented minority scholars who are often not privileged to have access to this information. Students who are first-generation graduate students will also benefit tremendously from this program as it exposed me to a lot of information I may not have learned or thought of during post doc search. The environment was also very inclusive and I felt as if I was already part of the community. This was an excellent networking and community-building event."

I met connections that I believe will be lifelong.

"Professional network - I met connections that I believe will be lifelong. Finding scholars who are at the same level in their journey made it helpful for us to be able to interact with one another and form bonds on different issues. I enjoyed the opportunity to share our passions, career aspirations, and what we seek in postdocs."
